Greetings from Middle America

...where very little ever occurs. In the interest of procrastination, I have decided to share with you the most interesting thing that has happened in my town since I got back from TASP--perhaps the most interesting thing since our band director went to prison:

Like most football-worshipping small towns, we have a yearly Homecoming game, where the entire town and many alumni of the high school (basically the same demographic, but some people make the bold move of transplanting themselves to the next county) come to watch the crowning of the queen and the annihilation of the football team.

This year's Homecoming queen, however, is the only girl in the history of my school to be a varsity football player (she's the person they bring in to kick the field goals. She also plays soccer).
Does this signify victory for Title IX? Not quite, because that law is still being contested by many universities, which claim that it drains the budgets for the sports that bring them revenue.
It was cute, though.

Yeah, two years ago our band director was convicted of molesting band members, so now he's behind bars. He was outwardly a very nice guy--although, i suppose, a bit too friendly.
